Interested to know what the mesh is for on the soil

I had a problem with the triple apex being too much for the trunk, makes it look small. Thought about layering off the left one...
But I think it's the pot. It's visually constricting.
Plus in a wide shallow joint, maybe you can widen out the base with some roots.
This is one of those trees that is so impressive, it might not get that critical look. But you can't make great excellent without it.
