There have been lots of posts and comments over the years involving older trees and how to manage them. Among those comments are Some that argue buying older developed trees is basically not as dynamic as creating something from scratch”

This NBF blog post is about the initial design donation and redesign of a signature tree in the National Bonsai and Penjing Museum

I saw this tree just after it was donated back in the early 90s when collected native trees weren’t common and Bald Cypress was a relative unquantified species to adapt. This is perhaps the one tree that pushed me into bonsai particularly native trees

Guy Guidry and his group of Gulf Coast pirate bonsaists have been a key group in the history of bonsai in the U.S.

The radical redesign and repotting (done all at once off-season -don’t try that at home😁) shows how older established trees have to undergo sometime radical treatment involving substantial design decisions that are just —if not more (given the iconic status) — as profound as those done on less established developing trees

I was there in the audience back in May for about 3 hours of what I believe ended up as a 7 hour repotting and restyling of this tree. I've seen it about twice a year the last few years, and the repot experience was really interesting.
Nice article @rockm

I was there for the demo myself. Didn’t stay very long though. Had another commitment that afternoon. Knew it would take a while. I’ve seen it since the repot/redesign. It is doing well
