At least I think that's what this is! I've had it for some years & have only ever been brave enough to prune off large leaves rather than whole branches, but can see it's nowhere near a sensible shape once again, so figure time to get some serious help on what to do.

If possible could someone perhaps rework the image to show what exactly needs removed, rather than just telling me to cut particular bits off, as I'm always worried about overdoing it & ruining it completely.

This poor plant's had a tough time of it over the past year or two, almost dying on a couple of occasions due to drying out (I was in hosp at the time), plus survived the horrendous snowfall of 2010 when I stupidly never thought to bring it indoors, so has proven itself to be incredibly hardy weather wise, but not certain about pruner wise :)

Any & all suggestions welcome! Thanks

Welcome to B-Nut!

Take & post several pics taken at about mid height of the tree (as you rotate it). That will help us give you better advise. :)

Better yet, since it is late for the growing season, wait until fall before taking the pics. It will show the branches better. Then cut early spring as the buds swell. Good luck!

Ok - taken a good few - hopefully suffice for the purpose? Thanks again for considering this request - much appreciated. :)
