Pruning forsythia

My forsythias are growing very well after blooming. By now the new branches are already about 6” long with many nodes. When should I prune them to create a decent shape and still have it bloomed next early spring?

I prune mine as soon as it gets to 6 to 8 pairs of leaves, right back to 2 sets

Stop pruning around mid September to allow flower buds to set for next year

So, you suggest that mid-September is not too late to receive flowers next spring? It looks like I’ll be able to prune it twice then. That will create great ramification of the branches!

If you want flowers. Prune after blooming. To do so later will steal your flowers.

If you run into hollow branches. Cap the tips with cut paste so moisture doesn't get in and rot the branch.
