Hi all, this is the first time I've posted on here. I have a prunus cerasus and was wondering about their ability to be air layered? I would like to air layer the apex but was wondering if anyone had experience with doing this. Thank all

I have not done cherry, but I have done apple. Cherry should air layer just fine. Give the cherry at least 4 months to root. Some people give up too early. Cherry should root in one growing season.

For other species I have had it take two years. Generally one summer should be enough.

Thank you so much! I've only air layered a japanese maple and it only took a few weeks. I appreciate the heads up on the time frame. How long did your apple take?

I have air layered both plum and cherry. It took around 5 weeks to form callus, after 8 or 9 weeks there were roots.
I started mine after picking off the flowers, which is around mid spring.
Plum responded slower, but not by much.

I'm doing a winter cutting experiment as well. But since prunus are notoriously hard to root from cuttings, I'm not advising to copy that.
