We have tropical milkweed that is sold here. Pretty much evergreen. It seems that the monarchs do not migrate here. The only problem with the milkweed is that they get Oleander aphids like crazy here. Can’t do anything about them since if you get rid of the aphids you get rid of the caterpillars.

fight the good fight man! my friend has milkweed that comes up wild in his yard every year. once it establishes it takes over, in a good way if you're feeding monarchs. He does it too

I have read this, but have seen blue jays eat them, perhaps it is an acquired taste...

There are wasps, that will get them too, and dirt daubers.

Yes unfortunate about parasitic wasps and acquired tastes. Hope to do this as well if acquiring own land:cool:.
