Purchasing Starter Material

Hoping to fill in a knowledge gap. I recall a thread by a well-informed member posting photos of some starter material (bare roots, cropped trunk, established taper) that he was considering buying. He asked for opinions on whether the material was worth the cost, should he purchase it, etc. Wonderfully knowledgeable forum members offered excellent advice. I can't seem to find that thread and would appreciate if someone might send me in that direction. But more than that, I'm very interested in whether there's an actual online marketplace (aside from the normal bonsai nurseries) that offers starter material that you can see before you purchase.
