Can I de thorn a pyracantha and still retain it's latent buds? Seems like they only bud from thorn sites...

thanks

re: your post on pyracantha

Very good question Chris. I don't know but since I have several in the ground around here I'll try a "thorn" and see. Are you talking about all the way flush with the trunk or just nipping the tip?

Chris,

It buds both at thorns and at nodes...w/ or w/o thorns.

What I mean by the first part is that the thorns can also become branches, grow leaves, have branches and thorns....and so on.

You can, but it's a zero-sum exercise...I tried removing them for a while, realized I'd never keep up, and just learned how to work carefully with mine; thorns and all.

Thanks Brian, I wasn't sure about this at all. I'll just wear gloves ;)
