@Wires_Guy_wires did you try later-summer/fall grafting last year as you suggested you would? Was it successful? What species?

Yes, I did 3 junipers. And the success was mixed; the squamata took all 5 initially and dumped 1 this spring. The pfizer seemed like it accepted all 8 but after unwrapping a couple weeks ago initially 5 looked great, but just two held up. And the stricta juniper took the two like a charm.

I changed my technique by using a nylon 4mm wide, flat ribbon to tie the wounds instead of parafilm or wire. And then wrap parafilm over that. And this seems to improve the connection a whole lot. I haven't been tying my grafts other than using parafilm, and I think that that's a big deal on my success rates. I did a bunch this spring and they seem to have better healing at the connection when tied. So this fall I'll try again.
