Here’s a little Japanese quince (Texas Scarlet) I bought last spring at Home Depot. At that time I knew less about Bonsai than I do now, And I don’t know a lot now. I took it home cut a little off the top and some of the roots and put it into a pot. In August I got home from work, super hot outside, it had fallen over and the root ball was completely dry. I put it back in the pot, soaked it in water and put in the shade. It’s survived. In September the same thing happened. This time I put it into a pond a basket with a fast draining mix. Damn thing survived again. I know it has a thin trunk, no defined apex and the branches are probably too long. But the flowers look cool.
