This is an experiment for me. If it doesn't survive I just wasted $50.
I should've taken before pics, but these pics are good representative of what I did today on this Chamaecyparis obtusa nana
that I got at Meehans nursery earlier this year.

Right off the bat you may think the now longer leader should be the new trunk line, but I'm not so sure.
There's a small branch at the top edge of this cut that is not leggy. I just wanted to leave some foliage
so I left the taller leader be for now hoping to get some surge in the smaller branches closer to the cut
then remove other branches in time.

If it survives I will carve the cut a bit more angled.
Mistake, I wish I had left the stub longer and somewhat angled at the time I made it.

Next I started my 1st 2 trunk hinoki. One of these years I hope to do a hinoki cascade.

I think it will! I did some major chopping on one as well. We’ll see!

Well I certainly hope they both do, thanks!
I rather work on mine in August, but so often I liken hinoki to JWP with some similar characteristics
so maybe some Fall work will pan out. Not so great for my golden hinoki wiring in the Fall though.
