Raise your hand if at least one of the trees in your collection is confused by the weather of late.....

"Hand raised" I have a Japanese maple trying to leaf out.

We were in the teens 2 says ago, today it went above 60. Little does my maple know that by tomorrow night we'll be back to the 20's.

I'm zone 7b it's in my profile still. I'm in Brooklyn ny, I had it in my profile before but it somehow reset on me and i never refilled it all out.

My other 40 or so trees are fast asleep I just have one eager maple.

It's been in the 80s for a few days straight here. :/

My Korean hornbeam is about to leaf out. That's normal everything else Is still asleep. Don't know what it is about the hornbeam, but it always does this.

do what you can to keep the trees in the shade and cool all the time, as well as protected from cold winds. A good shot of warm sunshine on several warm days could speed up the awakening process. Then when it freezes again, and it will, kiss those buds goodbye. Maybe even whole twigs or branches.

No confused plants, thankfully, because it's been like April the past couple of days here. In fact, the storm that passed through yesterday (spawning tornadoes) was very spring-like. I knew it was going to be bad when I walked outside yesterday at 7 am to a very muggy 65 degrees. Tuesday, I was in a t-shirt and flip-flops, and this morning it's 35 degrees with a wind chill of 25. I couldn't blame my plants if they were confused.

Although everything here seems "ok" with the temperature being 64 yesterday and once again dipping to 19 tomorrow there has been some"strange" activity here, but only on 3 roses and one Maple. The roses have all changed from reddish brown to green 3 times this year with the weather shifts. The ornamental Maple still has many green branches with foliage dried up but firmly attached.
All the other trees, seedings, and saplings have managed to stay dorment:p

Many of mine are a little confused. It's been a very hot January here.

Yesterday was in the mid 80's, and tonight's predicted low is 40. At least they're not freezing, but 45 degree temperature shifts in such a short time-frame can't be good for them.

Really depends on what plants you have. My tropicals (buttonwood, neea, BRT, logwood, etc.) are back in the garage since the other day and will be coming out tomorrow.

That said, If I don't have any tropicals...it probably is of no concern.

No confusion here, even though it was 74 F yesterday and 69 the day before that. It's predicted to drop into the teens at night in the coming days...Snow flurries on Sunday.

Amur maples are juust beginning to show bud movement, but it's minimal and they always wake up early.

It was 67 day before yesterday and 65 yesterday here. I knew it was coming, so shoveled a big pile of snow around the trees that stay outside for the winter. The rootballs didn't unfreeze till mid day yesterday, and they froze again last night. So as long as we get reliable snow it's not too bad. And for a couple of days, I don't think it'll wake stuff up that fast anyway.
Just hope the warm spells are short!

I have mostly tropicals. I'll move my neea and BRT into the Florida room tonight, plus probably a few others. I've found that Ficus, Schef, Bougie's, etc don't seem to mind if it's down around 40 for a few hours. Maybe they'll shed a few leaves in protest, but I think they'll be fine in the long run.

In all actuality, the trees don't care much about daily weather patterns, unless they are all warm. SHort highs and lows do not affect them where you really need to worry about it. Unless you didn't set up proper overwintering for your trees. As said above it helps to know your local.

Same here. It was 85 degrees yesterday here in north fla. All the trees are starting to bud out. Today the high was 60 and we will be close to freezing lows. We have had a very warm winter even by our Florida standards. Usually Jan and Feb are our coldest months.

Punxsutawney Phil

Although it is 16f here at the moment Punxsutawney Phil did not see his shadow! Maybe I will be outside sooner then I thought!
