My son will be in Tokyo in April visiting friends. I don't want to infringe on his fun searching, but would like him to pick me up a nice pot. Any recommendations?

Cant help you steer him toward a pot.
But if I was ever to get to Tokyo my first stop would be the iconic Godzilla statue.
It would be like going to Paris and not looking at the Eiffel Tower.

Tough question. It’s kind of like sending him to NYC and asking him to buy you a watch, and asking us what you want?.

I’m not aware of any kilns in Tokyo, but the Ueno Green Club is there. Your best bet would be to give some parameters:

1. Price range
2. Size (go for small for transport)
3. Glaze color, or unglazed
4. Then a general guide to help recognize some of the makers’ stamps.

If you really like Koyo or Ino, for instance, send him some photos of good example pots you’d like, and their chop marks. I suspect these 2 makers and many others are much cheaper in Japan than here. Good luck!

I did't see any kilns in Tokyo either. I am going to give him some ideas for what I'd like. As for price, not looking to break the bank and may seem cheap but say 50-75 $$ maybe more depending. I would think Koyo or Ino would still be more than that. A nice 6" - 8" pot. Ueno Green Club would probably be a great place. Thanks!
