Great tree with great movement. I appreciate the choices you have made in it's development. Thanks for sharing it's progression.

Potawatomi13,

Your thoughts on this tree are legitimate. One of my earlier trees, skinny trunk, predictable movement, spread likely too large.

However, I built this tree by myself, reading from books, and therefore by formula. Yet, it gives me pleasure, as is. Trunk will never be thick, I’m well past sacrifice branches, growing in a box, or the like. Over time, I may be able to tighten it up, lighten it up, and add some unpredictability. All in good time.

Very nice work! Is this Pinus resinosa? I've one I'm working on for 5-6yrs.
When do you prune yours? I'm still trying different things w/mine and trying to figure it out.

This tree is Japanese red pine, or pinus densiflora. Wiring, branch cutting in winter, candle cut in summer

Update, tree today. 9 years after last pic, 20 years from first pic.
I like what you have done, but to me the left hand side above the first branch on the left, is to thick with growth/foliage and needs to be thinned just a tad. Maybe just the way the picture is. Nice tree!
