Well, I have this JRP cascade that is sitting in this pot for too long.
I got it two years ago, the original soil was a mix with mostly Akadama and now it is draining very badly.
I guess there are two problems, the old packed Akadama + being root bound, so the needles are showing yellowing tips and the second flush after summer decandling is not happening as strong as last year.
Please remember I am located at the Southern Hemisphere, so it is mid Autumn here.
Should I risk an emergency repot now or should I wait for the very beginning of the Spring as I do with my other pines?

I say wait until end of winter. You can poke a few holes in the soil to make sure the water will drain. How cold can your winter get?

Thanks, I have already done that with a wooden chopstick, it helped.

Not cold at all.
Between 10C and 5C, some two or three nights with frost.

I would wait until spring. JRP can go for a very long time in poor soil, and my troubles with them always came as a result of repotting. I’m spacing repots 5-7 years apart with my JRP now, and it seems to be healthier as a result.
