Just wondering if anyone had ever tried them? Are they good species? May come across 1 or 2 this weekend and just was wondering.

Those pinchotti look pretty suitable. But then again, there might be a reason why we don't see them as bonsai..
All I know is that I want one now.

I think they would make a great Bonsai if you could find a suitable candidate. It has foliage like the Ashe, which I think is among the finest and most delicate of all American bonsai species and very similar to shimpaku. It might even be finer than the Ashe.

Challenge will be finding one with good movement low on the trunk

Here’s one I collected this weekend! Looks to have great potential if I can keep it alive. Foliage is a little different than Ashe juniper but I really like it. Bark is more of a light gray than Ashe as well. From what I can tell they mostly grow as straight multitrunk clumps so I was super stoked to find this tree while collecting Ashe juniper.

Most likely a Pinchot juniper. I've never seen one as a bonsai. Great find.
