Please let me know if I am correct.

On Pines, remove the needles that grow upward and downward and leave the needles that grow on the side if the branches.

Is that correct?

Search Youtube for ryan neil videos. he has a few where he does a great job of explaining how to work with pines as well.

The answer, as is often with bonsai, is "it depends".

Different techniques are employed at different times during the training of the tree.

On some pines, JWP in particular, needles aren't pulled. If they are undesired, you cut them off very, very short.
