I log onto the site this morning and click "new posts" and the first word in the first post listed is the n-word...

I know B-nut is supposedly addressing the issue of the bar posts being displayed inadvertantly... Regardless, shame on all of you for posting such trash. This site is very popular. It's labelled as "The most popular Bonsai firums in the USA." Is this a good representation of USA Bonsai?

"This site is for enthusiasts of Bonsai and related arts and culture. It is tailored towards advanced bonsai subjects like styling, display, and appreciation of bonsai. Beginners are welcome!"

No where does it say that grown adults are to act like little brats, bickering over subjects so far removed from anything even remotely related to bonsai that they offend those whom they don't even know; those that are trying to visit this site for one reason, to share and expand upon their knowledge of the subject they love.

Imagine the shock when a new guest to this site shows up and see this trash! You think that's fair? Is that how we want to be known?

It's this very reason why your "rights are being taken away" from you... You don't know how to behave in a civil manner. Just b/c you can post on such topics does not mean you should. Grow up. There is a time and a place for most things... This in my opinion, is neither. If you want to discuss such filth, share emails and start a chain or visit some kkk forum. Absolutely appalled.
 
where is the new posts button, I have wished the site had one but haven't found it?

I'm right there with you on the appalled part. New guest, Hell, I was deeply offended, as we should all be as human beings. I believe in free speech, but doesn't anyone have a moral compass anymore? There are ways to discuss without racial epithets. Obviously this should stop.

Black guy here. Saw the 'nigger' thread and was a bit shocked that it was on the New section. But words only have as much power as you give to them. And this is the internet after all. It's not the place for the easily offended.

I will say, it was the first time I read anything in the Karaoke Bar. I'm shocked by the blatant ignorance and abundance of hatred displayed in there. It's a filthy and vile place. Certainly strange to associate that kind of talk with bonsai in America. Seems to do a disservice to the credibility of some members... but not the site overall.

I do wonder what other bonsai forums have this sort of forum. What does the Bar really add to the bonsai discussion?
 
Most other bonsai forums have nothing even close to the "bar"...and they're better off for it. It's very difficult to take some members seriously about anything after reading some of those threads.

If one person was banned from using the Bar all of this would go away...how about we leave the bar and BAN dirty harry...he hasn't contributed anything to the bonsai side of this forum in quite a long time...
 
A person could eschew the dry town mentality and frequent the bar,regale us with stories,kind of like keeping the olde worlde charm but with modern decor.

I'm thinking new acts,line dancing or something.

I'm eager to read about what it is to live in your locality,we don't live in correctional facilities where the Warden insists upon the silence of the prisoner so as to thwart gangs from keeping slaves.
 
Come on people, it's not like you are being dragged kicking and screaming to the K. Bar, in order to get there you have to go looking for it. If you don't like the activities in the K. Bar, don't frequent the place. As far as the offending post being discussed; it's totally out of line just as much as someone saying they are going to keep this thread at the top of the list because they don't like the person who posted it----and that from a moderator?
 
My own opinion is that things that weather US presidential elections are testament to something,perhaps even the human spirit.

This is the point. I clicked on a post about the hurricane in the normal lineup, and hate started swarming off the first post. I was expecting a post about the hurricane, oddly enough! When I went back to the new post page, I saw that it was from the Kbar forum. Then when I returned later I was smacked in the face with the N word. I do not and will never frequent that place. But now I don't think I can look at the people who post such garbage in the same light even when the board gets fixed back to the hidden Kbar setting.
It was exactly like being dragged down unwilling into the muck.

There are some appearant problems since the upgrade. I am currently having problems replying to certain posts, I either cannot post a reply or I get redirected to some off the wall bonsai comercial site.

This is how I feel about the place. It may reflect a character flaw/weakness on my part, but I (we) are definitely not the only ones. I've had discussions about this place with people on other forums, and many of them don't even come to bonsainut because of the karaoke bar.

Of course, there are a few who seem to only be here because of the karaoke bar, but from what I've seen they contribute little to no value to the bonsai part of the site.

Here's what I've discovered having been on this forum for quite some time:

The K-Bar is what it is. I find the topics, conversation, and (the majority of) the people who post there wrongheaded, bigoted and vile. And while that's partly a political thing, it's even more of a human thing. Hence, as I stated in the other thread, I simply no longer post in there. I haven't missed it. Sadly, I feel that the post that started this whole mess would have gone over with quiet acceptance and agreement had the coding bug not occurred, allowing it to show up in the New Posts section. It's altogether unfortunate.

On that note, however...I also feel the K-Bar is very, very, very easily ignored - as long as it CONTINUES not to be folded into the actual bonsai forums. Judyb noted that it's now hard to disconnect some who post both in the K-Bar and in the bonsai forums from their personal behaviors. I can't argue with that, and I can't imagine how jarring it must have been to seen that show up. To be fair...you have to be a real human toilet to post that anywhere for any reason. But I digress.

What I CAN say is that, much like the K-Bar itself, these miscreants are extremely easy to ignore, and if you want some help with that, there's a really handy ignore button that I've put to great use. The point of me bringing this up is this: even with many Ignores in effect, there are a TON of people who use the forums here on B-Nut for discussion and help and technique and advice and community in spirit of, you know, BONSAI. So if there are people complaining about B-Nut because the K-Bar exists, I'd advise them that it's a very small, very insignificant part of the site that only an unbalanced fringe use; otherwise, it isn't worth getting in a twist about (save for the recent - and hopefully short-lived - unpleasantness).

Sure, there are some people here I loathe, but there are 10x more that have helped me out and engaged in worthwhile conversation and made me feel like a valuable member of the BONSAI community. Whether or not the K-Bar is there isn't going to change that. So if a couple of lunatics need a place to circle-jerk to make themselves feel better, I say let them have it. I think it's been a boon to the community overall to see how those of us who are normal have immediately and vehemently rallied against them.
