Any opinions on a pot selection for this Rhode Island Red?

#1 First one is a round 10” Eric Cuijpers cream color with green tint.

#2 Next is an 8” John Cannon crackle cream with some brownish red. I think I would probably have a hard time squeezing it in this one.

#3 Next is another Eric Cuijpers, 10” octagon with soft rounded corners. Light blue crackle.

#4 Last is an 11” x 9” Sam Miller rectangle with rounded corners in reddish maroon with one side being almost on the pink side with the splotches.

I’m leaning towards one of the two Eric Cuijpers pots and probably more on #1 but I’m curious what others think.

I like the two you are leaning towards the best, but wish that they were shallower. The first one would be perfect if it were wider and shallower....
Don't like the shape of #2 with the tree, it's just too tall and small.

Thanks Judy, I agree with shallower in the long term but it is in a 10” bulb pan that is 5” deep (I should have added a pic) and I didn’t want to jump to a super shallow for it’s first pot.

Ah, but it's a maple, and they can take that sort of jump (if they are healthy, which given the leafed out picture shows, yours is) without blinking an eye. Shallow pots on maples also make the surface roots crazy good with no work on your part, they just do it!

The trunk girth doesn't work with most of your choices. Use what is appropriate in your growing climate.

Use the pot you like, ain't no foul there cuz sir, that ain't no harm!!

@LanceMac10 I know I didn’t grow a big enough set? :D I did get all of the nursery soil out after a dozen rinses with the hose and I did find a sex stone up under the trunk.

@JudyB sorry I did not go with the super shallow pot you liked. Maybe a shallower and wider in a few years. I am extremely happy with how it turned out and thanks to all who commented.

Looks pretty good. I did favor the little blue number, myself.

I do water anything in that shallow brown pot I posted earlier, at least three times a day in summer. So maybe you'll have avoided that.

That blue is alright but It looks cheapish.

This might could use a squashing, but it's not bad, I like the color.

It looks good, and the pot is a nice fit, although to my eye is just too narrow for the width of the canopy. Show us when it leafs out!

Since you just re-potted, it's a good time to cut back to the finer growth. Lot's of straight, lengthy inter-nodule shoots. That would help to "equalize" the disparity between a pretty heavy and broad canopy and a relatively "narrow" image the pot provides.

Enjoy either way!!:)
