Rising Sun Koi Scroll I Painted

Love this...I wonder how different it "feels" when you turn it upside down. (of course can't be done because of the writings and sig).

(picture Dario holding his laptop upside down here lol). Done...didn't look right LOL

When is your website up ? I would like to see some pine scrolls for sale. Thanks.

Do you ever paint two koi swimming past each other ? Very popular in Tai Chi, it is called tai chi fishes. I would be interested in something like that as well.

Beautiful are but why so many chop marks? Is that neccessary especially the color red which compete with the 'sun' on the fish.

Stacy, thats very nice, I do not know anything about scrolls but this artwork appeals to me. I like the lack of color, the red offsets the picture nicely. It looks like I am looking down into a Koi pond as they gather to get fed. Nice piece, great job.

Just caught (heehee) this one this morning, missed it before...

It has such a sense of motion, I can almost feel the fish brushing by. That must be hard to impart in 2d.

first let me say, thanks for sharing and i can see why you'd be proud of your artwork.
The "koi" is obviously a longfin ( in japan known as hirenaga) as opposed to nishikigoi, which is standard carp shape no elongated pectrorial and tail fins. In japan the red on the head is referred as tancho after their cranes. It is held in deep appreciation as it mimics their national flag. In koi shows it has a classification of it's own. very hard to get a good one that is naturally occuring. As one year olds these marks are often, surgerized to produce a perfect shape. If not done correctly as they grow you can see a yellow halo surounding the red.

Most koi spawns have 250 thousand babies to cull down to several hundreds. Tancho's occurr about 2 to 3 % of the total spawn, hence they can be very expensive,
