This is an interesting bonsai on sale at Yahoo! Auction Japan that would be tough to categorize in a traditional sense. It is certainly not a rock planting, nor is it a root over rock. It borrows elements from several styles, with a large rock, heavy moss and/or companion plantings within the pot, etc. It has a very nice back and almost feels to me like a centerpiece that can be viewed from all angles. Shows what one can do with a nice, but strictly average, black pine with some taper issues and a little creativity...

Am I seeing mushrooms?! Quick! Hide it from Will!

I'd rather see this tree on a slab or planted in a rock like Walter has been doing as opposed to using this grey rock that sticks out like a sore thumb...

Contrived concoction or unholy matrimony both spring to mind as titles.
