After reading Dave4 thread about the PPine, I think I have the answer. But how would a Rocky Mountain Juniper do here in Alabama, zone 7. Is it too warm here for them to thrive?

Thanks,
Michael

Likely too wet. It gets plenty hot where they are native but it may be the humidity that causes issues.

I have two collected trees that seem to be doing ok. Like ponderosa pines, they absolutely need perfect drainage, which means a 100% inorganic soil for me. They are prone to fungal diseases that cause tip die back, but I havn't noticed more of this in GA then I did in MA. I'll be starting my preemptive copper based anti fungal spraying on my pines and junipers this week.

Thanks for the replies, it is hot here the past 2 summers and humid!
