root cutting possible？

Anyone know if Japanese maple can be propagated with root cuttings? I know root cutting works well with Elm, but never heard of anyone mentioning doing this with JM. I guess not possible?

it does not. A Japanese maple has to have a node to put off buds from. Roots have no nodes.

I've had maple root cuttings stay alive for nearly 2 years but without shoots death is inevitable. They just do not have the capacity to produce new buds from roots.
