Anyone carve a rootstand, or have any resources for carving them (e.g. What woods to use, carving strategies, finishing, etc.)? I have been getting pretty handy carving tobacco pipes out of briar and pipe tools out of various hardwoods (bocote, Osage Orange, cocobolo, rosewood, etc.). I wanted to give it a try.

Awesome! I would love to take that class! I have lots of Yew wood, log size deadwood and actual rootwads of various sizes to make stands. Pretty simple with actual roots. Cut and polish, voilà! I would like to create stands by this method using the Yew wood. Very interesting, thanks and nice wares BTW, I have fashioned many handcrafted smoking implements of wood and stone.
