I always assumed that they would airlayer easy...until i tried. This was my 1st time trying. Out of 6 or 7 branches only 1 rooted. The rest healed over.

@Beanwagon when did you start your air layer? Any other suggestions? Tourniquet? Obviously I won't start it until next year, but just want to make sure I have enough time for it to recover after separation. Also, how did these ROR come out this year?

Update this has sat submerged and untouched. Today I decided to repot it and expose the roots. The tree is very firmly attached to the rock. Next step is to find a design and wire it.

It love some feedback/suggestions going forward.

The pot(i made from concrete) is all I had laying around that would fit it.

That is pretty darn awesome. That rock looks heavy, but I like that you used one large enough to make it look believable. So many pick too small a rock and it looks like the tree is holding a pebble between its knees. as for styling, I would see it I could make it kinda like a spreading tree, to really broom, but kinda leaning that way. Totally not a natural form for a BC, but it would be cool anyway.

Cheers! The rock is actually very light as its porous. I was thinking similar with the design. I was also considering semi cascade.

Amazing. That has bulked up so quickly as well. Beautiful tree and great combo with the rock. Very inspiring.

I finally got around to doing some initial wiring on this.

Next i plan to trim everything shorter, do some root work amd refine the wiring/shape. I also want to find a shallow pot for this.

love that trunk line!

do you plan to cut back the top branches further once the branches set in place and the wire come off ?

do you keep the tree in a tub of water during the summer?

best regards
Herman

Cheers! Yes i do plan to cut back more but i do not really have a plan to be honest. I was going to see how it reacts and go from there.

I keep my swamp cypresses in water year round.

This has sat in pretty much 100% water this year. I had planned to trim the roots and repot it into 100% akadama however I missed the windows.

Today I cut it back again.

I have a few options with this one and if all else fails I can cut it right back and start again.

How long have you been working on this tree? I'm in South Florida and I love this kind of tree. Thank you for sharing.
