Hm.. Difficult to solve but I read somewhere.. fertilize stronger and stop trimming. Then the branches will grow out a bit more and the leaves will be bigger

I must have missed the post you’re referring to...but it doesn’t sound like I missed anything good.

Repotted this one as well. I’m not really impressed with the roots on this one. In fact, both of the tridents I repotted had less-than impressive root systems. I would have expected them to fill a pot faster than J. Maples, but here that is not the case.

Bud-break…we had snow on the ground yesterday, and it was 25f this AM. Lots of trees spent the weekend in the basement.

Titanium. At the suggestion of @Bonsai Nut I bought a few but prefer bamboo for working on roots.

I bet if you covered the soil in moss or sphagnum the roots would fill the pot faster. Pros and cons to doing that, but it does cause prolific fine root growth.
