With age, the trident can "consume" the rock. Is that the goal? Not really. You want to see the roots clasping the rock. But, over time, the roots thicken and cover the rock.

Not much you can do about it.

It takes decades, though.

Thanks @Adair M ...With the small rocks used. I would imagine it could happen in ones life time though. It's sort of...Still cool in a quirky way. So choose your rock carefully when doing one of these. I've seen them sort of lost the roots but not to this degree.

Lol...shhhh it was an almost Ponderosa.

That thread was almost more like the
OK Corral!

I dig the tree here...

For me, it still looks good...

I think you can plan to have it still look good after the rock is gone.
This one works!

You lose me on western talk...

I agree, this one is still carrying the cool factor. I think better than speared trees actually.

I think now, I will always look to visualize the tree swallowing the rock now when I see a speared tree on a rock. Some are done well though, some it looks painful for the tree.

I think Ponderosa was where the Daltons lived on a 70's TV show?
Littlhouse on the prarie?

The OK Corral was the the site of the famous shootout with Wyatt Earp!

Didn't watch that show...and I had thought the OK Corral sounded familiar. That might be why... Thanks for straightening it up in my head.
