Hi 👋
I would like to transfer my sago palm tree 🏝to a bonsai pot which is currently potted in a regular plastic pot.
  1. Is September the right month in California, US to do that?
  2. Is it possible or ok to shorten the leaves instead of cutting them from their base, to make it look smaller?
I read online that doing it in wrong season would shock them.
Please share your thoughts or some suggestions on this.

Thank you.

Sago repotting timing is similar to most bonsai - transplant in dormancy.

For CA - late winter or early spring is your best bet.

Sago aren't huge fans of moving or root pruning - not a good species for annual repots and root development.

The fronds will grow smaller when it is in a smaller pot. Its going to be 100 degrees today where I live in California. Like the guy from Sausalito said, I just wanted to say Sausalito, late winter early spring. February is the month I do it in.

You've got 40 degrees on me today, and much better fish tacos.
