Hi everyone!

Since last Spring I decided to start working on a Salix integra that's growing in ground on the side of my house and that will have to be removed in the next few years to make place for a garage.

The tree was growing in ground, a simple pole tree, small at the base who was there when I bought the house... If there is something that I can't stand anymore its a pole tree.

To make a long story short, I decided to go for my first chop experiment and give a try at building this tree from scratch.
The tree had small leaves and a very slow development. After the cut the tree simply exploded in growth starting from a 10in tall in May to 10ft tall in Nov, so it seems to be a strong grower when in ground.

My issue is about the excessive callus formation I face after making the cuts.

I made the first chop straight, keeping a branche on the upper part to keep water flow and see if it would result in dieback as I have no previous experience and not much documentation about the tree.
I also applied putty, with less ormone then paste as a first test.
To my surprise the callus formation is not an issue its pretty much the opposite as the excessive amount of callus create big bulges over the cut.
The good thing is I have time to ask questions before making the second chop this coming Spring 23.
How can I control the excessive callus formation?
Not using any paste comes first on my list.. but seeing the important transition cuts I have to make next Spring I want to put all chances on my side to understand better the behavior of this tree.

Here some pictures of the tree in September and November 22' Initial chop was done last May.
