Brought big trees inside yesterday ahead of the 'cane. Hope they won't have to stay in long...Put most of the trees on the ground and secured them as well as possible so they wouldn't fly through my windows.

That drought that's been nagging the mid Atlantic states could be a soggy memory when this is over. Already eight inches of rain south of here.

Good luck to you!!!

All my tropicals (except the cold hardiest 4) went inside my garage this weekend. Not sure if I will do the 2 step to move them out again tomorrow.

EDIT IN: BTW, I am in Austin, TX and not in Sandy's path...I brought mine in due to the cold front.

Looks like all my trees are going to be in four day's of darkness.I put them all away saturday morning.I am hoping to bring them out wednesday morning.Since the eye will be moving pretty much right over my house.

Oh, my, what a disaster...
I hope that you guys don't have to stay in the dark (without power) for too long.

Last year, when the 100-mile winds hit my town, we were without power for over eight days. It was bleak and depressing.

Agreed.

I was in Guam when Typhoon Paka hit and it left us water-less for a week and power-less for a month. Other places stayed w/o power for 2 months...this is over Christmas 1997 and New Year 1998.

The max gust is under reported...Andersen US Air Force base's wind gauge was reporting and broke and got stuck at 185 MPH.

yup, your house and my house...good luck.

Good luck all. I hope things will not be as bad as media suggestted. Fingers crossed.

"It was bleak and depressing"

Those are the kinds of days ahead for a large patch of the mid-Atlantic and N.E. if this thing does what they're saying its supposed to do. At this point, I don't doubt it. A friend of mine on the South Shore of Long Island said he already had a foot of water in his house and the storm's not there yet. A 10-13 foot storm surge is predicted there.

We're beginning to get some pretty sturdy gusts here, too. I probably won't be online in the next few days, as power will probably go out soon.

Right there with you Mark. Living only a few miles from each other, we're both going to get the same thing. Winds are getting pretty bad, but I've heard it's not supposed to get really gusty until later tonight. The rain gauge says we've gotten 2 inches so far.

But hey, the storm canceled my classes

Well, we're well out of Sandy's path and we're having 45 mph pretty steady gusts -- and with that cold front already hovering over us thet makes it pretty darned chilly.

Good luck to everyone in Sandy's VERY wide path.

HOW 'BOUT THEM GIANTS!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm just north of Boston. I took my trees in yesterday. We lost power from 1 pm to 3 pm. The wind is gusting very strongly. The bands of rain have been off and on.

Best of luck to all of you that are south of us.
Joe

On the MA/RI border and was able to bring my small collection in this morning. Not overly bad yet but I think the worst is yet to come. Probably will be able to go out Wednesday morning is my guess.

God bless you all ! Here in Ohio we are having outrageous cold wind and rain, mid 40's yet it feels like below zero with the 40 mph sustained winds we been having, not that I am complaining compared to your weather.

I moved all my trees into my detached garage late yesterday afternoon. Winds are pretty strong here, and we're still a few hours from the big winds. I'm just hoping that we ride out power long enough that I won't have to test the outer limits of my backup battery on my sump pump.

Good luck everyone!

about an hour north of DC here and the power is still on as of 7PM Monday. The power is out 10 minutes east of here. Stockpiled water (on a well and septic here: no power, no water), including draining down my rain barrel to use in the toilets. Do you have any idea how scarce D cell batteries are right now?
Trees are on the ground and behind some windbreaks. Hope they make it.
Tomorrow should be interesting. Good luck all.

Nah Nah, you missed me

Gladly the weather predictions got it wrong again for the DC area. I know there are many near rivers and the Chesapeake Bay who are underwater, and my thoughts are with them, but where I am the buildup was worse than the main event. Yes, a lot of rain, but the winds were really a non-factor for me.
I hope those in NJ and NY are able to recover quickly.

Predictions didn't get it wrong for me... We had 70 mph winds and 5 inches of rain down here near Ft. Belvoir in Va. Power went on and off intermittently last night, but held. No damage to the house or the trees, thank God. Now it's a cold rain and 30 mph wind gusts.
