Not sure if anyone can tell from this small of a sappling but really hoping its a Japanese maple? Its is in my ibo nishiki Japanese maple’s training pot. Didnt see any flowers or seeds though so I’m rather skeptical. 97FF3464-EE9E-4903-A42F-79DF46329D25.jpeg8FE8094B-F1C1-4F4E-9C66-A79C71EC0D01.jpeg3A74C3CE-29DE-44B6-9CE5-0074EB377D61.jpeg

I do not think that is a Japanese maple. You can see in the attached photo what Japanese maple seedlings look like. The first set of leaves is narrow and rounded, the second set starts looking like little maple leaves

Dang, thats a great pic. Thanks! I have a zelkova, hornbeam, and crabapple nearby. Also trees in my yard seem to be fertile. I’ll keep them around until I can ID them.

Definitely not Japanese maple but harder to tell what it is this early.
My guess is something in the apple family from this early stage - possible crab apple? - but could be way off.
Wait till the leaves open fully then check against nearby possibilities.
