Last of my sapling forest attempts and again a non native to the UK but from seeds collected only half a mile from my house. The Quercus Ilex acorns were collected in 2017 and were germinated under paper Kitchen towel before growing on.

The last picture shown was taken last year. Update photo to follow.

Love this species. Don't know if I've ever seen a Q. Ilex forest planting before :)

Ive been searching for images of full sized Quercus Ilex forests to get an idea of how to plan my planting. Clearly all the best sources are in Spain, Portugal and Greece. They are quite similar to some of the ancient Quercus Robur forests on Dartmoor and in Derbyshire discussed in a recent post on oak branch structure. I guess they are similar stunted survivors just in a different climate.

These images are from the Ranti Forest, Ikaria, Greece
