Hey!
Neighbours tore out an old fence and built a new one. This guy was a casualty I picked up. Just put it in the only container I had on hand with the earth around it. Are there signs of life? Or am I watering and reading poetry to a corpse?
Fairly certain it was just torn out of the ground, as there weren’t much in terms of roots.
Thanks!
Bonus picture of his little brothers that are doing a lot better!

Only time will tell if it will survive.

Put it in a spot that gets a little morning sun and shade the rest of the day for 2-3 weeks. Watch the watering in that potting soil. It will have a tendency to stay too wet.

Then just wait and watch

Good luck

No indication of when the transplant was done which makes it harder to predict from what we see in the pics.
On the + side, many maple species are tough and can survive transplant any time of year. It is not unusual for all the leaves to turn brown and drop as the tree tries to regulate water uptake through compromised roots with transpiration through leaves. All being well a few weeks later new buds appear and start to grow.

As above, afternoon shade is probably best. Definitely take care with watering when you have garden soil in a pot.
