My dad did as he was told and dug up a corckscrew hazel from the garden. He was under instruction from my mum. he hacked it to bits and threw it in the skip. I retrieved it a few days later and for 2 years it has been recovering at the bottom of my garden. Does anybody have any suggestions on how to encourage branches in the right place?

It has an interesting trunk. I think to get the branches in the righ place, you just want as much branch growth as possible. To encourage this, you could repot the stump into a larger container which will promote more growth.
