Schefflera timing?

Thought I would try my hand at a tropical and since schefflera are available and cheap I picked one up. I have read that spring is the time to re-pot. I'm wondering though what the best time to do a heavy chop is. If I plan to re-pot in the spring can I do a heavy pruning in say late winter? The plant is very healthy with a good bit of new growth now. It is in a bright window with my orchids and gets some supplemental light.

Sounds like you're taking good care of it. :)

With most tropicals in northern latitudes, the best time for serious work is when the plant is in active growth. I would wait until the beginning of summer for that heavy chop.

(I'd suggest being ready to stick all those cuttings that will result, too. Scheffs root quite easily.)

Thanks for the advice. I will certainly try and root most of the cuttings.
