Thuja can make fantastic bonsai. They can be hard to manage as foliage can start to grow seemingly every which way when not kept in check.
I think too often they are styled to look like big masses of clipped foliage much like a topiary. I personally like to get in there and sort it all out frond by frond. But it is A LOT of work!!
