When you throw out the garbage let me know.Mine are garbage
To be clear...I did not mean to imply the raw stock from Wigerts was garbage or that I am in any way unhappy about it. I was trying to point out that it is still very raw and not anywhere near the quality of many of the nice trees in this thread! When you throw out the garbage let me know.
Wow..must be the humidity.Further, they seem to do well in terrariums. This is a cherry cutting in a 7 gallon paludarium. The fruit started turning red a few days ago
I know. I'm just messing with you.To be clear...I did not mean to imply the raw stock from Wigerts was garbage or that I am in any way unhappy about it. I was trying to point out that it is still very raw and not anywhere near the quality of many of the nice trees in this thread!
The stock from Wigerts is the quality and value I've come to expect yhe few purchases I've made from them. I will not hesitate to purchase from them in the future!
That is in an area that seems like their private collection. I don’t know if they are for sale or not but there’s no prices on any in that spot.Check out this beautiful one from Wigert, any one know the price of it before I email them asking them tomorrow ?
Quality lights make such a huge difference. It is awesome to actually get good winter growth.Mine are loving the new lights, they need to be pruned!
That's for sure. For years, my trees have limped through the winter, this year they are thriving. And thanks to the Bootstrap Farmer trays, watering is a breeze!Quality lights make such a huge difference. It is awesome to actually get good winter growth.
Those are the only trays I buy any more. I expect they will last for decades. That's for sure. For years, my trees have limped through the winter, this year they are thriving. And thanks to the Bootstrap Farmer trays, watering is a breeze!
Very nice and interesting about the light experiment. They are one of my favorites. Mine spend the spring/summer/fall outside but still flower indoors. I have a few cherries on one, safe from the squirrels. Mine came from Wigert's also. This thread has been quiet for awhile, does anyone have any updates they care to share?
So I've been doing some experimenting with light hours on these over the past year or so to see how or if it affects flowering, for me that's what I'm most interested in, lots of flowers.
A little background, I'm strictly an indoor grower using LED boards overhead with florescent side lighting so it's a relatively stable environment for testing.
Normally I have the lights on 16 hours a day year round, but last year (October) I decided to try cutting the hours down to 14 a day for the winter months, not all at once but 1/2 hour a week until down to 14 hours.
Well what happened kinda surprised me, both of my cherries started flowering like crazy, not the normal scattered flowering that happens throughout the year but full flushes of flowers. And not just once but like 3 or 4 flushes, about once every 3 to 5 weeks.
Now I also do a trim or cut back after each flowering, so it's most likely a combination of both trimming/cutting back and shorter light hours. But to be fair I also trim/cut back year round as needed but don't get the same results as with the shorter light hours.
One more thing, since these plants are pretty heavy feeders I do fertilize every watering, around 1/4 strength along with supplements like "CAL-MAG plus" and "Gaia Mania" from Nectar of the Gods.
Your mileage may vary.
Alright enough typing, here's some pics. 1-1/2 year progression. Bottom right pic as received from Wigerts.

Yeah these are one of my favs too, I'd have more but space is limited so only 2 for now.Very nice and interesting about the light experiment. They are one of my favorites. The only thing I wasn't ready for was the claws on each leaf. Ouch!Barbados cherry its nice, although the really cool Malpighia for bonsai its Malpighia coccigera!! but you guys aren't ready for that information yet
