I tend to just prune to a shape in my head...than a hard chop like that. Though it should respond well for you. I don't like two steps back when I can move forward.

I want to change the direction now that I have the roots exposed. I'm using an existing branch now as the new leader.

@Pitoon I've had excellent luck with Virginia creeper rooting in just a glass of water. Hopefully you saved that top
I just tossed it into the woods, but now I know they root easily in water. I have some huge vines on my property. Might be worth experimenting.

It was a Korin satsuki, unfortunately I don't have it anymore.
I will look if I have more pictures 😉

No, I didn't know that the photo had been used, but I had seen that Marc Bauwens used it to advertise his satsuki festival.
Many people use without asking the photos of other people's trees, just look at the photos of Aurora, a wonderful maple from Walter.

Too bad! It was spectacular. Lucky new owner!

No luvinthemountai, not really, 🥲
I lost more than 50 satsuki in one day because of me.
One night, there was a threat of heavy thunderstorms.
With a friend, we brought in all my azaleas that were blooming or about to bloom in a greenhouse.
When we were done, my friend closed the greenhouse, but I didn't see that he closed both doors.
The night was calm with no storms and the next morning I went to work.
When I got home at the end of the day, it was 69 degrees Celsius (156.2 degrees Fahrenheit, I think)
I tried to save them, but for the most part, it was already over.

Thank you, that's nice of you.
All my other trees are doing very well and my bonsai space has evolved a lot since then.

It's hard to post photos after Toche's amazing azaleas... o_O

Anyway, here we go: a Cotoneaster. I put a kind of stake so the wind doesn't bend it, until the roots are strong enough:

I saw that some of you have "virginia creepers" (Parthenocissus quinquefolia). I have this one in a tall pot. I don't know yet if I will make it a "neagari" or a "sekijoju" (root over rock). I already have several (too many?) of the same style, but what else can you do with this one?...
