I purchased this tree from Andy Smith last year (2017).

I took it to a workshop with Bjorn in June of last year (2017)

I fertilized with Sumo Cakes Acidic Blend for the rest of 2017 and so far this year. (2018)

Here are a few shots of the growth.

I will keep my hands off and just keep fertilizing with Sumo Cakes and watering. Maybe fall of 2019 or 2020 I will look at a second styling or a repot.

Nice purchase! Is that a crazy burl at its base?
From my understanding is that it's from growing in a crack. Then when it grows fat enough it pops the rocks that were containing and constraining it. I have heard it referred to as a popper or a cracker.

Wow, didn't see that coming from the shot of the original tree. Nice!

I would have to agree. I had a couple thoughts on the tree but this was not one of them. Others had suggested it but I didn't see it as well as they did.

Love this tree and happy to see new ramification;). Personally have 10 Yamadori Ponderosa incl. 3 from Andys burlap bonanza. Love how these burst with new sprouts with great care.

Jeez I thought it had aluminum foil wrapped around the bottom for an air layer!!!

Definitely don't see that every day! Very cool!

Kind of looks that way in the photos.
I am glad to see that the bottom right branch is getting stronger.

Most of the wire has come off this year. Some was biting pretty bad. Can’t wait to rework this tree again next fall.
