Another tree I got for free. This is a "shawnee brave" bald cypress. Grafted.

I'm not sure what to do with this one so I've just been letting it grow. I could let the trunk thicken and then choose one of the upper trunks to keep. I also wonder what would happen if I buried it up to the knob on the graft to see if I could ground layer it.

Yikes. That is truly an awful graft...No harm in trying to ground layer it. It's pretty worthless with that big ugly knot.

Another option is to cut the graft off and let the rootstock grow.
That is definitely possible, but only if you want to lose the specific tighter growing "Shawnee Brave" foliage. The root stock is most likely "plain old Bald Cypress"

Interesting trunk. In time and some carving can become interesting tree;).

Right now I'm thinking air layer for a twin trunk and then see if the rootstock lives. Best of both worlds.
