Bought this last summer. Here's a series of progress photos. The last two are today and yes it needs to be rotated about 30 degrees to remove the eye poker and maybe leaned over a bit so the first part of the trunk is not so vertical. Oh well , next spring.

Dwight,
I like this little shimpaku and think it has some possibilities. What are your plans for the branching? It is not too early to make sure that your branching has some movement to it. Wire each branch (using annealed copper wire if you have it) and shape the tree with it. You will want to open up the foliage a little to let air and sunlight in.

Get rid of any little suckers in the crotches before you detail wire this, then feed it well and push growth. Good luck!

Chris , if you look at the before shot you can see what I've already done. I removed the wire from last summer in Nov and have been waiting for it to recover. I need to work on the apex and the first and second branch some. I'll put wire back on in May and do the whole tree
