I have a Shimpaku in a 3 gallon pot that I want to grow out in the ground. It has 2 long 1/2" + outside branches that I thought I could ground layer and make rafts. I have seen info on deciduous ground layer but not junipers. I am thinking if I plant it and stake down the branches in a couple years it would just happen but that is just a guess.

Advice?

Mike, junipers are one of the easiest and fastest to layer wherever and however you choose. Damp conditions in the medium not soggy.

I ring barked one in many places and put it horizontal in the ground...I suspect all the ringed parts are rooted...but it is a needle juniper.
