This is my latest Penjing and is still a Work in Progress, will be adding 2 maybe 4 additional Shimpaku as time goes on...probably next Spring.

I call it Shimpaku and Boy Fishing...

It is a scene of Shimpaku growing on a Rocky Outcropping with Pond in Front of Setting...
Pot Tray Scene is 18"x14"x9", 2" Pot height...
It consists of Chinese Ying Rock, Varied Ground Moss, Dead Log, Colored Pebbles to replicate Water,
A Boy Fishing....

Last picture is when I started in April 2017 others are October 2017...

Cool - Have you considered adding blue sand to the water area? Not solid but mixed with white or similar.

The addition of the standing rock at the back is a huge improvement. Also the grey background for the photo and different lighting (?) is much more flattering. It would be nice to see the trees filled out more.
