I recently purchased some small shimpaku for a forest planting. I finished with four small whips left over. I don't want to make another forest. Any styling suggestions with these small guys. Thanks!

I would take advantage of their flexibility by wiring them, crunching them down and letting them grow. You can then work on some shari/jin to create some of the really interesting shimpaku with lots of wiggle and movement in a compact little tree.

I know this is an old thread and the op probably did something with these long ago. However, maybe do something a little different with an old idea. The yamadori radical twisting and bending idea. Do that, but maybe use 2-3 whips, all twisted and wrapped around each other. Seems like the root balls are very small on these. You could probably get 3 of them in a small pot. Might have something very nice in about 5 years.
