Thanks for clarifyng. I was under the impression that trees benefit from misting, but yes I have heard that it also makes a probability of fungus and some diseases higher... I'm stealing the thread with stupid questions... I'll research it.

@Adair M, yes... lots of branches at the back and maybe the angle of the picture when I took it didn’t show up. Went outside and took a picture of the back of the tree..

You have a very nice JBP. Here are my thoughts:

Shohin are tricky... especially JBP, or any other tree that gets shown on the top of the box. That showing position puts the tree either at or above eye level for most people. That is, the pot is at eye level. So, we end up looking at the tree from underneath!

That’s usually not the best view of the tree. The best view is normally like the first picture you posted. So... we have to modify the styling of the tree to make it look like the first view when actually looking at it from under.

To do this, we have to lower the branches.

Shohin is tricky!

Too technical. Relax and enjoy a beautiful tree is all I can say here.

Perhaps. Marie has lots of fantastic Shohin. When you get good at something, really good, it sometimes helps to have someone else look at your art to see how it can get better.

I’m pretty good at JBP, and at Shohin. So, I think my observations are valid.

It’s also perhaps instructive, not only to Marie, but others on the forum for things to consider when making and styling trees.

If all you want from me is a “like”, that’s too bad. I bring a half century of experience and learning to this forum so that others may benefit. I don’t benefit by offering constructive critiques.

There is not a single bonsai tree in the world that is “perfect”. The fun is figuring out how it can continue to improve.
