After languishing with results that weren't what I expected and changing/controlling/checking everything in my power, I finally came to the conclu$ion that my growing areas didn't get enough sun. I bit the bullet and called a tree $ervice and had them remove $everal tree$ in one area of my yard. (My bonsai area is about 0.10 acre and we removed 15-ish mature oak trees.)

Now that I have that problem taken care of, I'm finding that some of my maples and azaleas are getting a little more sun than maybe they're happy with. I'd like to provide some shade for them to be able to grow their happiest. Have any of you set up some sort of shade structure (again with the alliteration?) that you're happy with? Or have you seen any that you think work well?

Inspire me.

I just put a shade structure up and built a bench for my deciduous trees. I used the Toja Grid system, and pressure treated 4x4’s dyed black with india ink. 50% shade cloth is going on tomorrow.

Temporary shade structure. After I got things tied down well it withstood about 60mph wind bursts. Bought my shade screens..10x12 at Harbor Freight. Durable screen....3 seasons 110f in summer. Simple conduit pipe. Nothing spectacular to look at but does the job.

I have a really large south facing patio. Right now I have a greenhouse with a shade cloth, but I’d love a retractable pergola type thing.
