Third bench almost finished today.
It's an hybrid of vertical and horizontal planks if seen from above.
The wood is Cumaru, a close relative to Ipê, very hard and sturdy.
Now we need to stain and varnish it, to finish it off.

Thank you to everyone on this post, it has been a great source of inspiration. So here's the site for my new bench

01.jpg

The bench has a dual purpose. As well as a space to display and work on my trees, it will also help to support next door's fence that is in the early stages of falling over.

To keep costs down, the frame is all recycled wood.

The shelves are reclaimed white oak floor boards. I planed the tongue side flat and screwed the boards down with the groove at the back where it's not seen.

The stainless steel work bench tray was a cover for a machine that my work was disposing of.

I now have 44 square feet of shelf space. I'm quite please how it's turned out. It just needs a bit of ground work to tidy the area in front.

Total cost so far: £35.00 for screws, wood preserver and a bag of concrete post fix.

Mac.

You people and your fancy benches. Concrete foundation blocks and 2x6x8ft boards are my go to benches. In the winter I reuse them in the greenhouse for winter storage of my trees. Less money on benches more money for trees. hehehe

My greenhouse is nothing fancy. My parents and I built it as a lean to 3 seasons room that I stole for bonsai winter storage. Its so old it shifted and is currently a slight rhombus shape so when we rebuilt the roof this spring it was fun trying to get the panels to line up with the rafters.
