These two pots were acquired from Sarah Rayner and Gary Wood.
The smaller darker pot is 9 1/2 inch diameter and 3 inch depth is from Sarah. The larger lighter coloured pot is 11 1/2 inch diameter and 3 1/2 inch depth and from Gary. I am developing a smaller collected twin trunk Hemlock for the Sarah Rayner pot and trying to decide between a Japanese Red Pine or a large Azalea for the Gary Wood Pot.

This is one area I am lacking in. One reason being is that I have only a couple of trees that actually need decent pots and I am not really interested in collecting pots on their own. One thing that does appeal to me is the idea of putting a bonsai tree that you have created into a pot that you have created. Kind of full circle. To that end I am starting an 8 week pottery course this week.

I'm don't "collect" pots and until recently haven't thought about final pots for most of my trees but, the past 12 months I've been picking up pots when I could. I have a few Chinese pots from the early 90's when I started this journey, they looked cool then, now I see and understand the error of my ways LOLIMG_1363.jpg

I don’t have a collection, but I do have an assortment of pots I’m intending to use.

I finally unpacked and organized my pots in my basement. Here are 65 ceramic pots. I have another 15 or so that are actually in use. I’m optimistic I’ll be able to use at least 15 of these pots this winter.

From top to bottom: unglazed rectangles, unglazed ovals, glazed circles, glazed ovals, unglazed circles, glazed rectangles, and then some odds and ends on the floor, including mica pots.

None are particularly rare or antique. Many are Chinese and Japanese production ware.

In no particular order, I tend to buy from these ceramicists:
  • Vicki Chamberlain
  • Ashley Keller
  • Chuck Iker
  • Sarah Rayner
  • Ben Gutman
  • Scott Ross
  • Randy Doughty

I would like to buy work from these artists:
  • Lime Allen
  • Jan Rentenaar
  • Eli Akins
  • Jonathan Cross
  • Paul Olson
  • Ron Lang
