Thanks for the comments. I have a pretty nice group of about a dozen sierras that I have kept and have been working on with Ryan Neil the past 3 years. He will be out in June, and we will work on refining the pads. I'll post some pictures then.

Cory - I had hip replacement surgery 3 weeks ago and the tree is in a half barrel. I don't think that I'll be moving it for awhile and probably won't make the REBS meeting next week.

Dario - My plan is not to do anything with the dead wood, other than to clean it up a bit. I don't think that you can improve on what mother nature does.

Which half of the barrel ? :)

God bless your recovery, my cousin had to have both hips replaced in his early fifties, I know they make you get up and move almost immediately on the new hips. He healed fine and is like a new man now, so give that baby a rest and your hip as well.

Collecting a Sierra juniper is my next mission lol. Massive tree but great material.
Saw that other Sierra from another thread really awesome, the one that didn't sell...
