I am going to transition one of my silverberries from the ground to a pot this year. Can they tolerate hard root work like deciduous, or go lighter like conifers? It’s an Elaeagnus pungens if that makes a difference.
So, I have some experience with an old imported Elaeagnus bonsai- suspect E. multiflora - that was repotted last winter and had at least 50% root reduction and continued on without a hitch. My understanding is that Elaeagnus are generally very vigorous, almost weedy shrubs that can be aggressively pruned and root worked.
